They have a 12.5mcg/h Fentanyl patch. This is equal to 57mg of morphine which is close to the starting dose. It's will probably be safe if your Mom has ever been on any pain killers such as the Oxycontin like you mentioned. If she is prescribe this dose of a Fentanyl patch the manufacture recommends keeping an eye on the patient for 12 to 24 hours. Fentanyl patches are amazing and prevent people from getting in the habit of 'Popping pills' which can become a habit forming and can well, lead to addiction basically.

You might know all of this but you only have to replace the patch every 3 days which is a great benefit. If she ends up being prescribed the Fentanyl Patch it's recommend that you don't apply heat to to patch as this will increase the amount of Fentanyl in your blood stream so it's no hot tubs or heating pads on the patch. I hope this helps. If you are worried you can always start with a different narcotic such as Morphine Sulfate until she becomes tolerant to it at the dose necessary to change to the 25mcg/h or the smaller and less potent 12.5mcg/h patch.

I hope this helps you out. Good luck and feel free to add me as a friend and send me a private message as I would be happy to answer any of your questions. Hope this helps! I'm not sure if I'm understanding your question correctly, however what I think you may be asking is ' are there any extended release patches that do not contain an opiate medication in them?'

If I'm reading that correct, there is a patch called Flector Patch that is changed every 12 hours, it is used for mild to moderate pain. The medicaton in the patch is called: diclofenac epolamine ' topical patch. It is a anti inflammatory non-steroidal medicine. If she has problems taking narcotics this may help, if the Doctors could start her out on a low dose opiate to take while she is on the patch she might be able to tolerate the opiate better. Some people who have a sensitivity to opiates have a lot of trouble using the patch as there is no way to control how much is getting into your sysytem. With pills at least she can control it a little better. In the mean time maybe this Flector Patch could help ease some of the pain.My husband uses these patches and they work very well for him.If you google Flector Patch there is a ton of information on the internet explaining this medication.I hope this helps, and furthermore, I hope I did not mis understand your question.

I received my second lumbar facet injection today. My previous ones put me down for days so I requested a pain patch to go with my usual oxy dose. The doc prescribed the new Flector Patch. No idea what it was.

Find out it's basically ibuprofen.Completely useless with the intense pain on my back, after the loca anesthesia wore off. And the price was insane, I had to call my insurance for approval and it was off the charts for deductible.Anyone else have luck with these things?

The patches are an NSAID & used for treating inflammation. Before kicking dirt on them I would give them a little time, I would imagine with the injection there is some inflammation going on & perhaps in a little time this may help. What type of patches were you thinking the dr would rx?Hopefully the injection will kick in & give you some relief. Take careSusie. A Flector Patch makes sense.
