SCA ElectionsWe are excited to announce a new format for Oak Hill Elementary’s student government! In an effort to provide equal representation to all classes, we will have a governing student council rather than having four elected officers. In the fall, each sixth grade classroom will elect a student council officer. This student council will provide the leadership for our SCA which will be made up of representatives from classes in grades 3-6. Elections for each classroom council member will be in the fall. Career Switcher Information SessionThe FCPS Office of Talent Acquisition & Management (TAM) will host a Career Switcher Information Session at the on Tuesday, May 21, at 5:30 p.m. In room 1000A.
This event will give military veterans, community members, and anyone interested an opportunity to learn how to become a licensed Virginia teacher.The information session will begin with presentations from the four approved Virginia Department of Education career switcher programs: Educate Virginia, Old Dominion University, Regent University, and Shenandoah University. Troops to Teachers will also present their program offerings to military veteran attendees.A panel of FCPS educators will share information with attendees in a question and answer format, followed by an opportunity to network with panel members, the FCPS licensure team, and the substitute office.

Library NewsOn Thursday, June 6 th librarians from the Chantilly Branch of the Fairfax County Public Library will visit Oak Hill to meet with every class to kick-off the library's summer reading program. This year’s theme is It’s Showtime at your Library.
They will share all the information that your child needs to know to participate in this summer reading incentive. And back by popular demand the librarians will share book talks to highlight popular reading choices to motivate and guide your child’s book picks. Program materials will be available in June at the Chantilly Branch of the Fairfax County Public Library.FCPS sets the due date for all student library books 10 days before the close of the school year. Therefore, ALL student library books are due by Friday, May 31 st. (The last day for students to check out books is Thursday, May 30 th, but then they must return those books the very next day). PTA News PTA Summer Book ExchangeThe Oak Hill PTA’s annual Summer Book Exchange, which is a great way for students to trade books they have read and enjoyed, will be held during school on June 4 and 5. Books are being collected now through Monday, June 3.
Students may bring in gently used books, leave them in the Summer Book Exchange bin in the lobby, and take a receipt good for an equal number of books (up to 15 books). On June 4 (grades 4 – 6) and June 5 (grades pre-K – 3), each class will have time at the book exchange when students who submitted books can bring their receipts and “shop” for their selections. Spring CarnivalOak Hill PTA will be hosting the Spring Carnival 2019 on Friday, June 7th from 5:30 - 8:00 pm at the Oak Hill ES Fields. There will be several tables and booths for kids.
